"There are not more than 100 people in the world who truly hate the Catholic Church, but there are millions who hate what they perceive to be the Catholic Church. ....As a matter of fact, if we Catholics believed all of the untruths and lies which were said against the Church, we probably would hate the Church a thousand times more than they do." -----Archbishop Sheen

***Say "HI" to the Homeless**** Campaign - First Day
Charity isnt always money, a simple Hello can go along way.
The homeless are often over looked or looked down on. So for the rest of December say Hi to the homeless in our society. They are people just like us and deserve some humanity.
...
"That which you do to the least of my brothers you also do to me"
------Jesus Christ
So say Hi to Jesus and pass this along!
12/12/2011--OK, so my first day in this campaign is interesting in my opinion. I havent actually had the opportunity to say "Hi" but in driving I observed something and pondered.
I was in the left hand turn lane watching a homeless man on a bench near a bus stop while I was waiting to turn. He was isolated and talking to himself. Then another homeless man walked by him, talking to himself as well, and they exchanged a few words as he passed by on his way. As the second man passed by the people waiting for the bus (still talking to himself) not a single person looked up or spoke a word to him. Only after he passed they would stare at him.
So I began to wonder, do the homeless talk to themselves simply because no one will talk to them? Humans are social creatures and need other human contact. So in the absence of verbal contact for an extended period of time do people talk to themselves to fill that void or are they mentally ill as some have stated?

My conversation with Greg Crouse of Ray Comfort & Kirk Camerons "way of the master" Calvinist sect
Below is a conversation that has been taking place on Facebook. Greg is a nice enough guy but his Christian message is skewed by what he perceives to be what Roman Catholics believe.
Also below are part I & II of my refuting his false accusations about Catholics.
I will post any additions to this as they arrive.

Greg--

Myth #25 Crosses, Crucifixes and Sarcramentals Oh My!
First off let me clarify the difference between a "Cross" and a "Crucifix". A Crucifix is a cross with Jesus on it and a cross is just that a cross.
Sacramentals are throughout the bible.
Matthew 9:20 Just then a woman who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years came up behind him and touched the edge of his cloak.
Matthew 14:36 and begged him to let the sick just touch the edge of his cloak, and all who touched him were healed.
Acts 19:11-12 - Paul's handkerchiefs healed the sick and those with unclean spirits. This is another example of physical things effecting physical and spiritual cures.
Acts 5:15 - Peter's shadow healed the sick. This proves that relics of the saints have supernatural healing power, and this belief has been a part of Catholic tradition for 2,000 years.
2 Kings 13:21 - Elisha's bones bring a man back to life. The saints' bones are often kept beneath the altars of Catholic churches and have brought about supernatural cures throughout the Christian age.
Numbers 21:9
Moses therefore made a brazen serpent, and set it up for a sign: which when they that were bitten looked upon, they were healed.

MYTH #23 The Catholic Church hates Homosexuals
From the Catechism:
2358 The number of men and women who have deep-seated homosexual tendencies is not negligible. They do not choose their homosexual condition; for most of them it is a trial. They must be accepted with respect, compassion, and sensitivity. Every sign of unjust discrimination in their regard should be avoided. These persons are called to fulfill God's will in their lives and, if they are Christians, to unite to the sacrifice of the Lord's Cross the difficulties they may encounter from their condition.
Any unmarried persons are to abstain from sex until married in the Church. Whether straight or gay. It is in acting on these desires that we become a slave to sin.
Below is the complete section from the Catechism and the link to the Vatican's website.
Chastity and homosexuality

2357 Homosexuality refers to relations between men or between women who experience an exclusive or predominant sexual attraction toward persons of the same sex. It has taken a great variety of forms through the centuries and in different cultures. Its psychological genesis remains largely unexplained. Basing itself on Sacred Scripture, which presents homosexual acts as acts of grave depravity,140 tradition has always declared that "homosexual acts are intrinsically disordered."141 They are contrary to the natural law. They close the sexual act to the gift of life. They do not proceed from a genuine affective and sexual complementarity. Under no circumstances can they be approved.
